Youtuber: Popular route and you don’t need fancy equipment to get started. With your phone and a ring light teach your makeup tricks, hacks, hauls, and ect. With enough followers you can possibly land some sponsorships and if desired create your own makeup line.  Many popular youtubers like Jackie Aina, NikkieTutorials, Patrick Starr, Jaclyn Hill, and many more have gotten started like this.

Professional Setting: If you’re good at your craft maybe you might get discovered and asked to work on a set for movies, tv shows, etc.

Salon/Spa: This is a regular route and means you can either have your own salon/suite or work in someone else’s salon/suite.

Beauty Companies: Apply for a job in Ulta or any beauty company that offers beauty services and give advice, tips, and make sales for these companies. This is a good place to start to get your feet wet in business, customer service, and working on clients with differ skin types and shades.

Teacher: Create digital products like ebooks, or videos teaching others how to do makeup. Or utilize apps like eventbrite  and social media to create in person beauty classes.

Eyelash Extensions Technicians

Eyelash extensions are a cosmetic makeup application used to enhance the length, curl, and fullness of natural eyelashes. Before you take an Eyelash extensions class you need to research your State guidelines on Eyelash Extensions procedures.  Your State could require a  cosmetology or esthetician license to legally practice eyelash extensions. However, there are some states that don’t regulate this beauty practice that extensively and just require that you simply be certified.

Depending on State education can be 6 to 12 months if you need a license or 1-2 days if your state only requires certification.

Class: Cosmetology/Esthetician- Student loan

certification-$300-$1,000 depending on whether class comes with a kit, content provided, duration, and reputation

Job Opportunities

Salon/Spa: You can either open on salon or work in someone else establishment

Youtube: create videos giving tips, hacks, or where you buy supplies

Teacher: Just like Youtube create videos but in the form of online classes to sell or teach in person

Varying by State and your preference you can charge $100-$300 for full sets and $50-$150 for refills per client

Microblading Artist

Next after lash extensions, I think microblading is the next popular beauty trend. Microblading involves using a small tool with teeny, tiny needles instead of a traditional tattoo gun. The needles manually draw delicate hair strokes while also depositing pigment under the skin giving a semi-permanent, unwashable realistic tattoo technique to create the illusion of fuller brows. This effect should last about 18-30 months with touch ups being done at least every 6 months or every year.

This procedure is in demand, for our society’s love for fleek eyebrows, and this treatment means you can use less brow products or none at all.

You will need to do your research based on your state because some states do require a license either from a permanent makeup board approved school for 6 months. Other states like Texas for instance just require you to be at least 18 and  to pay a $1,000 fee to the Texas Health Department for the building/room you will be practicing in. Education cost can be Financial Aid or payment setup.

States requiring  a permanent license will be qualifies after completing schooling and passing the State Board

Certification States can just find a reputable class to get certified and should take no more than 1-3 days. Depending on who you get training from these classes can vary in price by $1,000 to $5,000 most of the time these classes should come with the kit and that is why they cost this much.

Job Opportunities

Salon/Spa-Practice in your own salon or someone else’s

Teacher: Teach microblading either online or in person

A Microblading artist can potentially earn around $187,000 to $600,000 a year depending on some factors like your location, number of clients, number of hours worked, and your quality of service. This is possible because you can charge on average $250-$1,000 a client. So I think the education for this beauty procedure is worth it.

Body Contouring/Skin Tightening

What is Body Contouring? It is a collection of non-surgical cosmetic treatments used to reveal a firm and toned body hidden underneath layers of fat or loose skin. They target stubborn fat deposits found in the abdomen, thighs, or love handles.

What is skin tightening? Another non-surgical cosmetic treatment to change the look of your face and stomach. The procedure to target energy to heat deeper layers of skin, to stimulate collagen and elastin procedure to improve skin tone and texture.

You can take these classes either separate but there are some programs that offer them as a hybrid class for the price of one. This is the one you should choose because you will learn two different beauty procedures to offer clients. These classes should also take no more than 1 to 3 days to complete. The cost for one of these classes can range from $300 dollars if you are just wanting the certificate to $1,000 if you want to take a class that offers a kit as well.

Body Contouring-based on the client’s contouring goals and areas being treated you can charge a couple hundreds to thousands for a full treatment.

Skin tightening-For the size of the area being treated and number of treatments you can charge on average $750 to a couple thousands per full treatment. These techs based on a number of clients can easily pull in anywhere from $55,000 to $100,000 a year making this beauty procedure a worthy investment.
